Organizing F.A.Q.’s from California Closets Toronto

Never underestimate the power of organization! The Toronto organization specialists at California Closets spend a great deal of their time answering storage questions for individual clients. The following are just a few of the most common questions we field concerning organizing principles and best practices.

1) How important is organizing? Can it really simplify my life?

Organization is everything to the Toronto storage specialists here at California Closets. Well-designed storage solutions can indeed simplify your life, but only if properly defined. For example, craft items should be stored together, but separate from other items, like children’s toys. You can also simplify things by becoming more aware of how many items you have that do the same thing. Is it really necessary to have a blender and a food processor? Any time that you can add space by removing excess “stuff” it’s a great idea to do so.

2) How do you start the process of organizing?

When our Toronto storage solution specialists start working with a client, the first thing they do is work with the individual to define the space. Is it an office or a playroom? What kinds of activities will be taking place in this room and what sort of organizational features are necessary to make the space more functional? If there are already items in the room, our Toronto interior design team like to remove any unnecessary items. Once we know what the room will be and what belongs there, it’s time to start grouping the items together and develop custom storage solutions to meet these needs.

3) Why am I so emotionally attached to my “stuff?”

There are many reasons why people keep stuff hanging around inside their Toronto home. It could be because the item was a gift from a relative. Even though you don’t really like it, you don’t want to give it away because you feel like you’re giving away memories of your family. If you’re having difficulty getting rid of the excess things that are cluttering up your home, stop and think things through. It’s important to match whether something is actually special to you at this point in your life, or if you’re keeping it for sentimental reasons.

4) What is the key to staying organized?

The only way that you’ll ever be able to maintain a state of constant organization is to accept the fact that you’re never done organizing! You will always need to be creating space for new items, which means you’ll always need to get rid of older things. Organization is an ongoing thing, which can be an overwhelming realization for some people. Once you come to terms with this concept of constant organization, you’ll find that it’s easier to create systems for maintaining a clean and clutter-free home.

5) How can I find time to organize?

The Toronto storage solution experts at California Closets advise establishing regularly scheduled organization intervals. This could be as little as 10 minutes a day, or two hours a week. Whatever it is you can find time for, just make sure you do it regularly and at consistent intervals.  If you try and tackle everything at once, you’ll burn out before you get it done. Do a little bit every day, and you’ll find that cleaning isn’t quite as bad as you originally thought.
